About A Better Moment

Better understanding. Better moments.

Who We Are

Most of us spend our lives learning how to care for our health.

We learn why sleep matters. We learn how nutrition affects our bodies. We learn about heart health, financial literacy, online safety, and countless other things that help us navigate everyday life with greater confidence.

We believe substance use health belongs in that same conversation.

For many of us, though, it wasn't something we were ever really taught. We picked up bits and pieces along the way—from news stories, television, personal experiences, and the conversations happening around us. Some of those pieces were helpful. Others reflected the best understanding available at the time. And like so many areas of health, what we know has continued to grow.

That means all of us have an opportunity to see something familiar in a new way.

To us, understanding isn't about becoming an expert or memorizing more information.

It's that quiet moment when something suddenly makes sense. When a new perspective helps you connect ideas you hadn't connected before. When you find yourself thinking,

"I never thought about it that way... I'm really glad I know this."

We believe everyone deserves more moments like that.

That's why A Better Moment exists.

We create science-informed guided experiences, practical guides, articles, videos, and other resources that make substance use health easier to understand, easier to talk about, and easier to carry into everyday life.

How This Work Began

A Better Moment is a project of Addiction Connections Resource (ACR), a Maryland nonprofit organization.

For years, our work focused on helping people navigate treatment, recovery, and support services. Along the way, we noticed something we hadn't expected.

People weren't only asking where to find help.

They were asking questions.

Parents wanted to understand what they were seeing. Friends wanted to know how to support someone they cared about. Professionals wanted resources they could confidently share. Organizations wanted trustworthy information that fit naturally into the work they were already doing.

The need wasn't just for services.

It was for understanding.

That realization changed the direction of our work.

Today, A Better Moment is building the Healthier Moments Collection. A growing collection of guided experiences, practical guides, articles, videos, and implementation tools designed to help make substance use health part of everyday understanding.

The People Behind This Work

Everything we create reflects the contributions of many people. We believe trustworthy understanding is built through collaboration. Every resource brings together current science, professional expertise, lived experience, and the insight of people and organizations who encounter these moments in everyday life. Together, they help ensure what we create is accurate, compassionate, and genuinely useful.

Our Board of Directors

ACR and this project, A Better Moment, is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors who provide governance, strategic direction, and stewardship for Addiction Connections Resource and its initiatives.

Our Advisors

We are deeply grateful to the physicians, researchers, behavioral health professionals, educators, and subject matter experts who generously contribute their knowledge and guidance. Their collaboration helps ensure our resources reflect current evidence while remaining practical, compassionate, and accessible.

Many of our resources have been strengthened by the insight and generosity of people with lived experience, family members, peer professionals, and community partners who shared their perspectives throughout development. Their voices continue to shape this work.

Our Community Partners

A Better Moment is still growing.

Every new resource teaches us something. Every partnership helps us improve. Every conversation helps us understand how this work can become more useful in everyday life.

Whether you're here because you're curious, supporting someone you care about, or looking for trustworthy resources to share through your organization, we're glad you found us.

We hope you leave seeing something a little differently than when you arrived. And if somewhere along the way you find yourself thinking,

"I'm really glad I know this." then we've done exactly what we hoped to do.
